The Bridge Covenant Church is putting in a basketball court. Pretty exciting, I know! The Bridge is the church where we rent space during the week for offices and ministry meetings. It is a small church full of great people, and they even gave generously towards our Property Fundraising Campaign. Now they are putting in a basketball court. What is their reason? To continue to reach teenagers who play basketball, some of whom are already coming to their church. They are paying the price to do evangelism.
Jesus didn’t wait for people to come to Him, He went to them and invited them to follow Him. Jesus ate with sinners; His table was open to all who would come, and He often invited the outcasts of society to His table. In Luke 19, Jesus even invited Himself over to Zacchaeus’ house! The followers of Christ continue this way of loving – going out of their way to initiate and reach out to others. For the last month, the Holy Spirit has brought new people into our church – have you gone to greet them? Each Sunday (and yes, every other day too!) keep your eyes out for new people God is bringing into your life.
Our church family has paid the price for a new property. The property and buildings are not for us; they are for God’s mission. The carpet may not be your favorite color – which won’t matter because Kids and Youth and College groups will be on it – and it will get stained! We will decorate, but we want to focus more on the mission than the decorations. We will continue to pay the price for evangelism. And yes, there is always a price to pay. Jesus left the Father’s side to pursue us.
Will you leave your comfort, control, and conversations to reach the lost with Him?
