Those who are poor should boast of the honor God has given them; those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. Wait…what? This is SO contrary to our culture and the world’s way of thinking that we can miss it if we don’t stop. Life is not measured by what we own, and yet we still want more and more. Life is measured by our walk with God, our relationship and care for others, our ability to forgive ourselves and make good choices. Money is a part of life, but it is not the measure of a good life. I know this, and yet I still want more – possessions are deceitful in that way – I am never content by having more. I have to start by realizing that I am not the poor person – I am the rich person, and I need to realize all of that wealth will fade away, and only the eternal will remain.
