Agenda: On Fire

0

I have always loved the story of the burning bush (Exodus 3).  Moses is a fugitive and minding his own business out in the wilderness – and then God shows up.  The Lord doesn’t scare him though – Moses sees a bush burning but not being consumed, and he is curious. When he gets closer the Lord speaks to him and tells Moses to Whom he is speaking.  Then God tells Moses that he will be sent on a mission – back to Egypt – to set God’s people free.  Moses is set on fire to do the will of God.

So often when I teach on time, agenda, and having space in your life for God, the first thing people think of is, “I need more rest in my life!”  It is true – most people do need more time to rest.  We have gotten ourselves worked into a frantic frenzy where we have no rest, and even our play is another bothersome item on our schedules!  But we need more than just more rest.

Moses was resting plenty; his life was probably pretty boring actually!  Then God set him on fire to change the world.  We change the way we do time so that we can live out the will of our Redeemer King.

Most often our goal is to be comfortable.  We don’t like being busy because it makes us tired and worn down.  God doesn’t want that!  But God also doesn’t want us comfortable.  Christ wants to set us on fire.  Our God is a consuming fire.  He will draw us in and transform our lives and change the world through us.  He didn’t give Moses any assurances other than, “I will be with you.”  That is enough.

Are you ready to have your heart set on fire?
