This year, Covenant Grove will be having Christmas Eve services on December 23 at 7:00pm and December 24 at 3:00 and 5:00pm. My kids like to call December 23 Christmas “Adam” (because Adam came before Eve). You may have your own traditions on December 23 – including last minute shopping or finally putting up the tree. But I wanted to take a couple of minutes to tell you why Covenant Grove is doing a Christmas Eve service on a day that is not even Christmas Eve.
There are a few key reasons:
- We want to reach people. You probably know that Christmas Eve is a service that a lot of non-churched people are willing to attend. Last year alone we had almost 90 new people at our services. We want to provide as many opportunities, on different day and at different times, for people to attend one of our services. We want people to hear the true, eternal message of Christmas: God has come; Jesus the King is born!
- We work hard to serve people. The Sunday prior to Christmas Eve also is a time when new people attend. We have three services on Sunday, December 22 (8:00, 9:30, and 11:00am). That brings the total to six services in three days! It is a lot of work, but it is our joy to serve people and help them get closer to Christ. We will do anything other than sin to reach people who don’t follow Christ.
- We love being together! This isn’t the main reason, but we just stinking love serving Jesus together; it is a life-changing bond. There is a large group of volunteers who will make these six services happen. We love serving together and being with others. We love our church family! Life is better together.
I am so excited for our Christmas Eve services. I hope you can make one of the services. Bring some cookies to share, bring your friends and family, and make sure you bring yourself – we want to see you there for this great service!
