Today I am on a flight for Detroit. Why would I be heading to Detroit in the middle of the summer? Because I love the Covenant – our larger church family.
You may know that Covenant Grove is not alone – we are connected to a great church family (called a denomination) that spans the entire globe. The Covenant is not a huge denomination – we have about 150,000 members in the US and Canada – but we are one of the church families that is growing now, mainly because of church planting. We also partner together with other denominations in church planting, evangelism, relief work, and missions.
I love having a larger church family – to know we are part of something bigger. The Covenant sends missionaries around the world, has relief efforts in America and across the globe, and cares for the elderly – we have retirement and nursing homes across the US. I love the connections I have in the Covenant – pastors and church members are encouraged to stay connected, and support each other. Our church has this connection with Modesto Covenant – who unselfishly planted us, sent 40 people, and still supports us in prayer and office space and support. This is the Covenant.
Pray for me, and for Brian Elliott – member of our Council and vice chair of our church – as we head to Detroit today.
Why are we heading to Detroit? We are stepping up on stage to become an official member church of the Covenant – what an honor it is. We are going so that our church people can also get a bigger picture of what it means to be part of this bigger family – and celebrate. What a blessing it is to be connected to the people of God!
