It is always nice to hear a compliment. After my sermons, many people offer kind and encouraging words to me, and I appreciate them very much. I have found, though, that as a teacher of God’s Word, what I love to hear most is how people have heard God’s voice, and how they have chosen to follow Him.
This summer I have heard from quite a few people who are intentionally responding to God – and really going deeper. There are people who are committing to reading the Bible for the first time – even though we were in the book of Leviticus at the time! (Don’t worry, we are heading into 1+2 Thessalonians next!) Others are reading extra books to help challenge them or help them reach out to others. Some are closing their eyes in worship for the first time, others are journaling and writing out prayers to Jesus. I have heard people taking walks in creation and spending time with God, or just laying down and stopping their day to have God’s peace and hear God’s voice.
There is nothing like God’s love. There is no one like our God. He is here for us, and calling us to be with Him. If you have not experienced the power of spending time with Him every day, consider making that habit a part of your life. You brush your teeth everyday (right?!), and spending time with God is definitely more important than oral hygiene (as important as that is). There is a peace and strength in knowing our Creator, and being filled with His love. He loves you and wants to talk to you every day. Be His!
