So… how was your January? I don’t know about you, but my January has been kinda a blur! Kids have been sick, they started back to school, I was gone for a week in Chicago, and the church has continued to grow (which is awesome!). I started January with a lot of incredible goals – family, ministry, weight loss, etc. But the problem is that January was such a blur that very few of those goals had much progress – especially the weight loss! For some people, this is just proof that we shouldn’t make goals or resolutions. But I have always been of the “if you aim at nothing you will hit it every time” mentality. I still want to make goals. I think the problem might be January.
Maybe the best time to make goals is at the END of January. December is great for connecting with people and reflecting back on the year. But I am finding that I need to go through January to get a feel for what the year is going to be like. So far, this year has been pretty exciting but hectic. Looking ahead, the rest of 2018 seems like it will be more of the same. My kids have more and more activities, Covenant Grove continues to grow, and there are some fun personal activities on the calendar. (Now about that weight loss…)
I made goals at the beginning of January, and I got some progress on those goals. But I am now looking at my goals – and my year – differently, after having gone through January. I am stretching out my deadlines and timelines, knowing that life might be a little more hectic than I originally envisioned. I made my goals when I was on vacation, and time itself felt different then. Now that January is over, I have a much more realistic expectation for how long it will take to accomplish these goals that God has put on my heart. I haven’t given up on them; in fact I am more excited than ever about what God has in store in 2018.
So, how was YOUR January? What do you think God has in store for you this year?
January very hectic for this retired guy. No contact with the kids, but service activity was huge, and those goals slipped a bit (weight loss being the main goal)…but a little progress- so , will try to maintain or try for small steps in Feb/Mar….but , so many pitfalls with birthdays, potlucks, and then there is that men’s retreat….maybe I should take a hike with Pastor Scott…
