One of the benefits and having been in ministry for so long (I’ve been doing this since about 1991, yes I really am that old!) is that you get to see some of the patterns how God works in the church, and how God works through you as a leader. We are getting to the end of the summer and school is back in. And even though the weather is still hot, life is becoming a little more routine. And while you may not have noticed it, our church has been growing like crazy in the summer. Our weekly attendance has not been as high as in the spring because people have been gone, at travel or tournaments, but there have been a bunch of new people who have visited Covenant Grove Church this summer. Most weeks we have had 5 first time visitors. There have been quite a few weeks where we have had 10 first time visitors! And we have not been resting as a church: we have had some great events, and we’ve been following with our new people, getting to know them, caring for them, and helping them get plugged in.
So what does all that mean? It means that in just a few weeks, when all the summer activities wrap up, it’s going to get incredibly crazy and fun at Covenant Grove Church!
But don’t worry. Because we’ve been doing this for a while, we have been planning ahead. We are planning on doing some overflow seating into the lobby. We have TVs mounted and the sound works out there. We are going to ask people, after the services, to gather outside for food and coffee and signing up for events. We’re going ask people in 2nd service to consider sitting in the lobby, or attending 1st or 3rd service, to allow there to be more space in the sanctuary.
Of course, we have been working this summer our capital campaign and building expansion. We know that God has bigger things in store for our church, and we are willing to dream and risk big in following Jesus. This is an exciting time to be in our church family!
So be ready for adventure! The greatest adventure is knowing Jesus, walking with Him, and getting closer to Him. Stay focused in prayer, because this is a battle. We are trying to bring people who have no church home into a church family that loves them and grows them closer to God. Pray like crazy and join in the adventure!!
