I have some huge news – God has raised enough money for our down payment! In just about 2 months we have raised over $129,000. We are now aiming at raising another $21,000 (or more) for improvements to our new property and buildings. God is moving and has done incredible things – more than we could have imagined.
July 16 is when we will be signing papers and getting keys. We will be doing improvements right away – be ready to work!
September 13 is when we will have our first services. That is exactly 6 years to the day of when we had our first meeting as a church – how amazing is that? What a great 6 years it has been. September 13 is also 1 year from when we found out we would have to leave Enochs and find a new place to rent – what a year it has been for Covenant Grove Church! We are still following Jesus and living out His mission to reach people.
As always, we have started with prayer. We don’t want to just ask God to bless our plans, we want to live out His plans for us. The goal of our church is not to focus on the buildings or property, but to use these as tools to live out His mission.
In Matthew 14:23 Jesus dismissed a crowd so that He could be alone and pray. Right before He prayed He had just done a huge miracle – feeding over 5,000 people. Before He did this miracle He was praying (14:23). While He did this miracle He also prayed (14:18). Jesus modeled for the disciples the power of prayer and the need to be alone with God – that is where our true strength comes from.
The disciples didn’t get it. They came to Jesus with a problem – people need to eat. Jesus challenged them to understand God’s power: “You feed them.” Their reply is so similar to ours – they thought about how much money it would cost to pay for the food to feed all the people. Jesus showed them the way of prayer – and everyone ate until they were satisfied. It took the disciples a while to learn the lesson about the power of prayer. Have we learned that lesson?
Pray first. Pray last. Pray during the work we are doing. Pray and work. Work hard with Jesus and always be in prayer. Don’t live life as if God were far away; He loves us and lives inside of His people. Pray. We don’t need to live in our own strength. We need to have the wisdom to live out the power of prayer as we serve and follow Jesus.
When we started there were many people who asked – can we really raise $125,000 in 4 months? No, we couldn’t. Pray.
God can raise $129,000 in 2 months. His power for His mission among His people.
Do we understand what He is teaching us? Pray first.
Can you see how this could be lived in your life? Keep praying.
