Why do celebrate Ash Wednesday and Lent? This a great way to connect into the larger Body of Christ, and we celebrate Lent because it is so relevant and so needed.
Lent reminds us of some really important things. We are sinners and we need to repent and turn back to Christ. We are saved because of His love and choice to suffer for us. Suffering is part of a godly life, and can bring us a joy that the world can’t understand. There are more things – but let’s just look at these three. NONE of these are lessons emphasized in the world today. We need Lent.
Lent is a 40 day season from Ash Wednesday to Easter (you don’t count the Sundays) where people focus on the obedient and loving sufferings of Christ for the world. This is a time we are called to pray more and focus on Christ. This is a time where many Christians give up things to remember the sacrifice of Jesus. This is a time to serve more – if you give up lunch once a week, consider also donating that money and time to help others in need. Your suffering can bring hope to the hurting. This is Lent.
Our world needs Lent, it is more relevant now than ever. As we enter this season, take some time to think about the sufferings of Jesus. Consider your sin and how God is calling you to grow and change with Him. And embrace suffering as part of the calling in this world – you will not suffer alone – Christ will be with you and use your suffering to help others.
