If you are like me, you spend time reading your Bible and praying, but not always really soaking up God’s love and presence. I read my Bible, say my prayers, try to live a good life, and do my job well. I know God loves me and there are times that I really focus on Him – like worship and study times. But most of the time I am moving at warp speed – if Jesus was on the side of the road asking for me to slow down I would just fly right by Him!
I know that I need to soak Him up. I need to stop and spend time just accepting that Jesus loves me and wants to gush out His love for me. Jesus loves me not for what I do, but just because I am His. He is working on me and changing me, of course, but His love for me is just about who He is. I want to be so saturated with Christ’s love that it is overflowing out of my life. To put it bluntly – it is not. There are some people in my life (and probably yours too) that just suck the life out of me. Others squeeze the life out! We are all called to help each other – but that can be very draining at times. Jesus never meant for us to be drained, but filled up. That means that we need to spend time truly soaking up His love for us. The more we are giving, the more time we need soaking.
Jesus wants to spend time with us, and tell us how much He loves us. We often move so fast doing good things that we miss the best thing – Jesus. If I could slow down more I could help others more, I could be more effective in the time I have. I want to soak up His love. His love is neverending for you and me, and He offers it to us unconditionally. Why would I not want to be filled up more and more with that love?
We will be drained, we will be squeezed. Let’s soak Him up – so that when life squeezes, out comes His love.
