This Sunday is the end of our Theology 101 series. It has been been awesome to be able to take our church deeper together – to really dive into some key teachings of the Bible, and to see the importance and big picture of these things. God has been challenging me to take our church on these deeper paths, and it has been so great to see our church respond with enthusiasm. As we learn new things, and are challenged, our faith can grow in incredible new ways.
My prayer, of course, is that your knowledge alone has not grown – but your devotion and obedience to God has grown as well. Good theology leads to prayer, worship, silence, obedience.
I was talking with someone from our church this week, and he asked me, “Why haven’t I heard most of this before?” He was a little miffed. Part of it, of course, is that there is so much to cover in theology, that it is hard to put it all together. Part of it is that what we are talking about is “big picture” and “overall implications” types of things – and not everyone likes to preach on that stuff. Some people don’t know or like church history. Yep, I am kinda a nerd for that stuff!
The other thing, though, is that EVERYTHING is theology – you are always doing theology. How you worship, how you pray, how you drive, when you don’t think about God – it is ALL theology. How involved is God in your life? That is a theological discussion (called “immanence vs transcendence”). It is all theological, it is all spiritual (since you never leave your spirit behind). The question is – is your theology biblical? Anything less will bring pain in your life. That is the question that will remain long after this Theology 101 series is over. Stay in the Word, and be faithful to the One who is always faithful to you.
