Update on Special Needs Offering

0

Here is an update and some pictures from Peter Cowles, missionary (and Lindy’s father) – who helped us deliver the money and clothes to those with special needs in the Philippines.  We raised over $1200 and sent 5 big boxes of clothes – God really moved in the life of our church!

We went to the site where we have the persons with disabilities, the livelihood project, etc.

It was a long day but very rewarding.

We were able to distribute some clothes from Dresses for Orphans, some vitamins, and two wheelchairs.

One of the wheelchairs went to a 32 year old woman who is in third grade.  Up to now, she has spent her life scooting around on a towel. or stool.  Now she has a wheelchair, a big one that she can put up to a table at school.  She is quite strong and has no trouble controlling it.  She was so happy.

We also gave a wheelchair to a woman who had a stroke and had to be carried around.   She wept as she was put in the chair.  She is 82 years old.

We also visited many of the special children today and have some better ideas on how we may be able to help them.  We confirmed with the families that no diagnosis has been made for many of them.  Some had meningitis as a baby and some other things were reported, such as chemical exposures when mothers were pregnant.

Lots of work to be done in this area.  considering hiring one of the wives of a pastor in the area to do visitations and therapy for the kids.    She has no training but a bit heart and a background in teaching preschool kids.

We saw one instance where a child has no parents and is left alone for 8 or more hours each day as the grandmother is working and no one else is there.   remote area.

Any way, lots of joy today in our visit.

– Peter
