Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor. Honestly, He is the best counselor we could ever have.
When I was in junior high, the volunteers who helped in the group were not called “leaders”; they were called “counselors”. This didn’t mean they were trained therapists. It did mean that their primary job was to listen to the struggles, stress, and strained relationships of squirrely junior highers! Often their counseling included helping a confused junior higher (that is, me) realize that he was going through hard times because of a dumb decision. Good counseling listens but also helps a person see the truth. I had great counselors in my junior high and high school years, which is why I turned out (sorta) normal.
We all need a counselor – a person who listens to us and helps us process the confusion and mess of life. Jesus listens. Jesus understands. Jesus guides us on the right way. Jesus died for us and rose again so that we could have hope. Nothing can separate us from His love. Christ also sent the Holy Spirit to be our Counselor who lives in us and grows us closer to Christ.
Even though Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, tragically, many people do not go to Him. They run only to friends who care for them but have limited time and their own problems. People ask for prayer but don’t spend enough time actually in prayer. People won’t step away from the rat race where the voice of the Savior can be heard more clearly. Jesus knows that we need a Counselor, but too often we don’t go to the One person who understands us better than we understand ourselves. He is there for us – through the highs and lows of life. He is always ready to listen to our hearts.
What would it mean for you to let Jesus be your Wonderful Counselor?
Having Jesus as my counselor, and listening to Him, gives me peace and godly wisdom.
Amen Diane!!
