Exodus 12

0

God is teaching His people how to worship and walk with Him.  He is setting them free through the Passover – which was a day of tragedy in Egypt, but a day of freedom for Israel.

This story showed that the Lord has the power over death (not the Egyptian gods), the Lord would be in control (not Pharaoh), and that His people were to worship Him.  They were to cook a meal and eat it – dining together is part of worshipping God.  Community is important to the Lord.  They were to put the blood on the door – an innocent lamb – so they would remember the price of their freedom.  This is a foreshadowing of God giving up His own Son for us, for our freedom from the slavery of sin.  And God gives them the command to remember this meal – so they would remember what He did, and pass it on to all their children.

The descendants of Jacob are now free.  We will see how they handle their freedom next.
