God cares about my rest more than I do. That is strange, because I can often be so lazy.
In this chapter God sets out 3 major holidays that the Israelites are to observe – times to rest. They are also to allow their animals to rest, and the land to rest. God wants us to rest – so why do we continue to run without rest?
I have asked people over the years, “Are you more busy than God wants you to be?” Almost always the answer is, “Yes.” This is our modern return to personal slavery – we are slaves to busyness, and it causes stress, fatigue, hurt relationships, and isolation. This personal slavery is not pushed on us by someone else – it is our own exploitation of ourselves, our inability to say “no”, our lack of faith that God will take care of things if we rest.
I have to be reminded of the need to rest again and again. Sometimes I am way too lazy, sometimes I work way to much. The goal is for me to get into rhythm with God – to march in time with Him – not too fast, not too slow. That is the challenge, and I am still working on moving at His pace. When I do – life makes a sweet sound.
