The world keeps score, ranking people on a list of importance. And if we are honest, we keep score, too.
James asks us to see the world the way God sees the world. The rich and powerful of the world so often use their power to gain more power – rather than using that power to help others. And yet, we so often admire the powerful – the glitz, glamor, and endless money spent on themselves. James is asking us to keep a different score.
What is the “rank” of a person who does not have much, but gives to help others? This is the person who is so often unnoticed, but is on the top of God’s list.
God loves us all, but He has chosen to flip the rankings of the world – using the humble to make the real difference in the world.
