James 2:8-13

0

“All sin is equal in God’s eyes” – actually, no.  That verse is nowhere in the Bible.  That is another one of those things Christians think is right, until we really think about it.

Is murder really the same as lying?  No.  Not only do they not have the same consequence, but they hurt your soul on a much deeper level.  All sin is not equal.

What the Bible DOES say, is that all sin carries the “wage” of death (Romans 3:23), and that Jesus died for all sin, all sin needs to be forgiven, and (our verses for today) – if we break one sin, we have broken the whole law.  So I can not look down on one sin, while I break another, because we are both lawbreakers, and both in need of forgiveness.  So while all sins are not equal, God wants us to stop ranking each other by our sins – as if I am somehow better than someone else because I do not do “that” sin.  That is like thinking one corpse is better off than another!  We all need Jesus; we all need forgiveness; we can all be merciful to each other and show forgiveness.
