James 5:16-20

0

Confessing sins is only for Catholics, right?  Wrong.

Christians believe that we are to be obedient to God’s Word – and here it is, right in front of us: we are called to confess our sins to each other.  Sometimes this is called “accountability”; Jesus even told us that we are to spend time every time we pray asking for forgiveness and confessing our sins (“forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors”).

But confession is uncomfortable, and so we would rather just skip it.  Our world wants to believe that we are all just “good people” – which is easier to believe when you don’t spend time everyday thinking about the things you did wrong, the things you need to ask forgiveness for, and the things you need to change.  There is no change without confession.  And so then so many people never change, and the world goes on hurting each other (and then we blame God).

Confession, every day, in prayer, and to others.  It will change your life.  I promise.  Try it.
