What are you afraid of? Spiders, the dark, death?
The guards at the tomb were so afraid of the angel and the rolling away of the stone – that they fainted! And yet the angels says to the women, “Do not be afraid”. That is exactly what Jesus says to them when they see Him. I can imagine they would be a little afraid – it is one thing to see an angel, it is another thing to see someone who was crucified resurrected – with healed wounds! But that is the power of the resurrection – it takes away our fear.
And that power can live in us – in Christ. The Holy Spirit can work in us to take away our fear of death, of the dark, and probably even of spiders. We are safe and secure in Him. That security grows our trust – that leads to love. And we are called to work in love to change the world of fear. The resurrection changes everything – it is the new world (with no fear) breaking into the old world. It has begun, and we can start to experience the life of eternity inside of ourselves now – as we surrender to the Spirit’s leading, and draw close to the Father, and make a difference in this world for Jesus.
