This chapter begins the proverbs in “couplets” – short phrases that give wisdom. They are not always grouped by theme, but there is a lot to learn. This chapter focuses on the godly vs. the wicked, working hard and having success, and your words.
Our words are so powerful – and the words of the wise bring life to those around them. The words of the wise build others up and help them become stronger. The words of the wicked conceal violence – their words hide deeper issues and intentions. So many hurtful words are said every day – because we don’t have God’s peace inside of us. In Christ, we can have true peace, and that changes how we talk, and how we love others – because we are truly loved. The goal is that our words build others up – being wise, even when others are trying to hurt us.
