So often I hear about how the country is falling away from our spiritual roots, and losing our moral compass, and walking away from God. Often I feel the same way. So what am I supposed to do about this?
Verse 2 sums up the problem – when there is moral decay, a nation is ready to fall. This has happened over the years of history again and again. Christians are not called to complain and be complacent, but to name the issues and work with Christ to change our culture. Why is their spiritual decay in our country? Because Christians have not done their part – less and less percentage of the population goes to church on a regular basis now (between 18-50%, depending on the study). We are frustrated that people don’t think like Christians – because they aren’t.
One of our jobs as Christians is to be good citizens (v.7) and to help those in need (v.27) and to empower those who love God (v.28) and to work against greed (v.25). But our biggest job is not just citizenship – it is evangelism. People need Jesus – He is the cure. My prayer is that we can work for Christ and never give up, knowing that this is our country to fight this moral and spiritual battle for – and with Christ we can change this country from the heart – one person at a time.
