We are starting the book of Revelation in our devotions today. That isn’t a book most people read – why should we be reading it?
To start with, it is a book of the Bible – and every word of the Bible is important. Also, in verse 3, we are told that we are blessed when we read this book and obey the words in it. Also, this is a book that is very misunderstood. It is not about fear, but about right living, and praising God – there are a lot of SONGS in this book – the first one is in verse 7 – about Jesus returning on the clouds.
This book was originally sent to 7 churches – we will learn about them in chapters 2-3. The issues these churches are going through will help us understand the rest of the book. Jesus is the First and the Last – the Ruler of all, the One who has conquered death – and He never changes, He is faithful.
John describes how he saw Jesus look – shining, eyes of fire, a thundering voice – how can we describe God revealed? And remember, John was on the mountain when Jesus was transfigured – revealing part of Who He is – God incarnate.
This book is about praise, about knowing God, obeying Him, staying strong through hard times, finding hope, holding on to the Faithful One. This is a good book to read!
