I have been reading through Dallas Willard's masterpiece The Divine Conspiracy. It is a good book for many reasons, but he highlighted something that I wanted to share: Was Jesus smart?
Honestly, I don't think that most of us think He is. We would say that He is wise and spiritual, but not intelligent by our standards. Jesus wouldn't fit in at university, couldn't pass our tests, doesn't really belong there. Yet as we think about it, we know this is wrong - Jesus is the One who made the atoms and holds together the quarks; Jesus is the One who set the stars in motion and invented math. Jesus is the One who understands human relationships and emotions and has been a part of all of history. Jesus is smart.
Dallas Willard says, "And can we seriously imagine that Jesus could be Lord if he were not smart ? If he were divine, would he be dumb? Or uninformed ? Once you stop to think about it, how could he be what we take him to be in all other respects and not be the best-informed and most intelligent person of all, the smartest person who ever lived?"
Jesus is smart. He is intelligent. He would get an A on every test. He still has the greatest insights for our lives. Erase the false image of Jesus as dumb or misinformed - otherwise you will start to separate Him from your school, your job, your entertainment, your driving - thinking He doesn't understand. He does. He is smart. He loves you, and He still wants to teach us all the best way to live and shine for Him.
